In the changing socio- economic environment wherein education and affluence have become the hallmark of status in society, women too desire to step forward and work. This desire is pursuer a career and to assert themselves, sometime leads to understandable differences in husband-wife relationship. These differences may even lead to disharmony at home. While a man may have his point of view, invariably the main sufferer is the woman. Moreover woman today no longer want to suffer silently. They know their rights and demand justice. Yet many cases go unnoticed and only a minuscule number may be coming forward to seek justice/ redress. Realising this, AWWA seeks to bridge and bring the gap and about greater understanding and harmony amongst the Army personnel and their families.

MAJOR CAUSES

Dowry. Dowry is still considered a basic right by many communities. Most educated men still demand dowry, buckling under the pressure from their family member. For women, the inability to live up the incessant demands of in-laws is major cause of marital discord.

Torture/ Harassment The unnecessary Saas-Bahu debacle still continues despite increased level of education and awareness. Psychological awakening adjustment is missing and needs to be addressed.

Plural Marriage. Since the soldier has a migratory job, most of the time he is compelled to stay away from his family. This can lead to a feeling of insecurity, paranoia and frustration. Stray cases of plural marriage also occur. In most cases the sufferer is the woman. Slow judicial process adds to their woes.

Economic Factors. Often a husband may not send any money to his wife or in good faith may send all the money to his parents. In either case the woman suffers the tribulations. Other Causes.

Alcoholism.

Depression.

Incompatibility.

Disparity in upbringing and education.
