Dear Col Ranjan,
I believe I owe it to you to write this mail as I can see the passion with which you have been raising these points for the improvement of the IESM. I am a new member in the organization, have never met you, and will not know the personal equation of all members with each other. But I have served under Gen Raj Kadiyan when he was my Corps Cdr and have a very high respect for the fellow senior officer. He will not know me but suffice to say that he is the most suited person to lead a fledgling organization like the IESM. Most general officers settled here in Panchkula play golf, at times give some bytes to media and retire to their homes in the evening. There are very few to stick their neck out and take on the government, agencies and the system on behalf of the veterans.

Coming on to the functioning of such bodies, I see in our AWHO meetings in Panchkula, a lone member (served in JAG) drags every other meeting and members to the court, since he feels that only his view should prevail. I have been trying to dissect the psyche of soldiers out of uniform, as to why do they believe that whatever they say must be heard by the majority and implemented or else....

The problem lies in our genetic orientation, which is highly undemocratic. We were driven in a top down structure and autocratic leadership style. Post retirement, in such forums, we suddenly find our vote being counted and every member finds a voice. While it is good to voice our concerns as you have a right to do so, we ought to learn to go with the majority views. That is something the politicians know but we are yet to learn. I appreciate your concerns but once a decision is made by a majority vote; someone of your passion should go and implement it.

The movement perhaps will fall apart not due to the MOD bureaucrats or Antony or the President not receiving our medals; but by a dissent within and made public so often. The politicians play this game all the time, getting insiders to sabotage well intentioned groups. We need to guard against any such attempts. I am sure you will not play into the hands of media or a bureaucrat or a politician to malign such a noble organisation and the only voice of the veterans.
It is my personal request and hope it is of every other member of the IESM.

IESM: South Zone Veterans Meet at Bangalore

Dear Veterans,
My salute to Col Rajan and his team for organising the SZMV meet on 27 June in a professional manner and their commitment to the cause of ex-servicemen and their dedication to strengthen the roots of IESM movement. The honourable home minister Karnataka Dr Acharya also graced the meeting with his presence. He heard various speakers and aslo addressed the gathering. He confirmed that Karnataka Govt will take up the issues concerning the ex-servicemen with Central Govt.

Many speakers expressed their views in a friendly atmosphere on number of issues. The main thrust of all speakers was to improve the condition and Izzat of ex-servicemen all over India. The speakers also expressed their resolve to strengthen the IESM and wished this movement to spread all over India to help solve all problems of ex-servicemen.

Vice Chairman and Gen Sec addressed the meet and stressed on the strengthening the IESM to ensure that all ex-servicemen get the due respect and lead a respectable life as responsible citizen of India. He confirmed that views expressed in the meeting have been noted and will be put up for discussion in the GB and subsequently to all members of the core group and all state conveners. A consensus decision will be arrived at keeping in mind the views of all conveners. The decision of the IESM head office will be communicated to all soon. In the mean time all conveners were requested to maintain status quo and follow the latest instructions of the IESM head office.

All present confirmed in one voice their resolve to strengthen the IESM.

SEMINAR AT BANGALORE
Dear Rajan
On my return late last night, I would like to thank you for organising the seminar on sat & Sunday at Bangalore. The manner of conduct of the whole show speaks volumes of your and your band of ESM.

The presence and speech of the State Home Minister was exceedingly significant.

The points made by the various speakers were valid indeed especially with regard to organisation of IESM, membership, pension dues, donations and membership etc. I am sure that all the proposals would be considered seriously once your report of the meet is received.

I would like to specifically mention the three conveners from the NE states who for a change were made to feel a part and parcel of the IESM family. I would be wanting if I also did not mention the lady who single handedly pursued the recruitment drive successfully for Convener Mysore.

Finally I would be failing if did not thank my host Admiral Vasanth who not withstanding his age and work pressure went out of his way from recieving and seeing me off at the airport and lookong after every requirement of mine in between.

Please do not rely on your personal capacity to donate funds for the noble cause “Justice for Defence Services”, but do request your close relatives and friends also to donate.
A large number of veterans are very well to do. God has been kind to you – it is time for you to show your big heart to all ESM be kind to them.
I am sure many of you are also capable of donating large sums every month to IESM.
IESM is a registered NGO.
Donations to IESM are exempt from Income Tax under the Provisions of Sec 80 G of the Income Tax Act. (Authority: Exemption accorded by Commissioner of Income Tax, Faridabad, Haryana, vide letter No.CIT/FBD/Tech/08-09/80 G/113/31/4533 dated 25 Aug 2009 and valid till 31 March 2012).
I promised to Chairman IESM to collect between Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 as donations from my close relatives and friends.
A large number of members of “Report My Signal” are still not members of IESM. I appeal to you all to come forward and become members of IESM.

Established in 1988 by a small group of retired officers at Cochin to promote the interests of veteran officers. Welfare, Charity, Social and humanitarian activities are some of its charters. DOWA has a noticeable strength of 245 members today. The kith and kin of the members further enhance its size. DOWA has a pan India network through well wishers and friends. Life membership is given to all retired defence service officers at a nominal fee. Retired and serving defence and civilian dignitaries are welcome to become honorary members.
