STATEMENT OF Dr. SUBRAMANIAN SWAMY, PRESIDENT OF JANATA PARTY
The arrest of Pakistani singer Rahat Ali Khan by the Enforcement Directorate and Delhi Police for possessing over US $ 120,000 dollars in undeclared and undisclosed cash should remind the UPA leaders of the arrest on June 2, 2001 in Boston Airport of the son of Ms. Sonia Gandhi, viz., Mr. Rahul Gandhi by the US Federal Police, the FBI, for possessing US $ 160,000 in cash undeclared and undisclosed. In Rahul's case, the Vajpayee Government went to bat for him, and after 9 hours the FBI on direction from US government released him after getting an undertaking. THE PRINCIPAL OPERATOR WHO WORKED FOR HIS RELEASE WAS MR. BRAJESH MISHRA, THE PRINCIPAL SECRETARY TO THE THEN PM VAJPAYEE. He has now been recognized for his service to the Nehru dynasty and awarded the Padma Vibhushan. Hence, it is difficult for the Congress led Government to decline the Pakistan government's vociferous demand to give similar amnesty to Rahat Ali Khan. I demand that the Prime Minister Dr. Man Mohan Singh instead to tell Pakistan to mind their business, and direct prosecution of Mr. Rahat for the crime. I also demand that Brijesh Mishra apologise publicly for his unholy intervention on behalf of Rahul Gandhi. Otherwise the Padma Vibhushan awarded to him must be revoked.
Rahul Gandhi and his girlfriend were detained by the FBI at Boston Ariport on June 2 2001 because Rahul Gandhi was found to be in illegal possession of unaccounted money to the tune of USD 160,000! This huge dollar amount generated suspicion with the US authorities. Rahul and his girl friend were thus detained by FBI. FBI suspected that Rahul was carrying terrorist funds or drug money for laundering in US.

Who the F**k is Brijesh Mishra to comment on the army chief? We dont want any certificate from Brijesh Mshra nor any good for nothing armchair retired ex government people. If today Pakistan or China attacks us today or even right now, the same Brijesh Mishra will hide in a dark rathole and pray to the Army Chief, that at least he, his wife, children and grandchildren be protected, and let rest of Indian citizens go to hell, let them die. Former BJP national security advisor Brajesh Mishra wants Gen VK Singh out becoz he fears skeletons may tumble out from his own old closet... surely Brijesh as NSA was in close link with all Munition Wheeler Dealers... Can the CBI link him to the Tatra Vectra Scam...? Obviously he wants the Army Chief to go to cover his own face and save his reward- Padma ViBhusan- which he rightly does not deserve!

Defence will have a say too in the NSCS

The long wait in the Defence services to have a say in the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) may get over soon, with Lt. Gen Prakash Menon, who is now NDC commandant, tipped to go on deputation to the NSCS. He is learnt to have a good rapport with the NSA and the grapevine has it that he may end up becoming Deputy NSA after his retirement sometime next year.

Lt General Chengapa expressed his satisfaction at the achievements of the area in all fields of responsibility and complimented all ranks for their hard work. He also thanked the Governments of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry for their support in ensuring the welfare of serving soldiers and the veterans. Lt Gen Chengapa superannuated after 39 years of distinguished service. During his tenure, Lt Gen Chengapa made concerted effort to improve the functioning of various welfare schemes for ex-servicemen and their families like Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme and ex-servicemen canteens. With his untiring effort and interaction with State Governments, long-pending requests for land for Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme and ex-servicemen canteens were cleared by the civil administration. He was also instrumental in getting placement for ex-servicemen in private companies with his close interaction with the corporate world

National Security: In- House Expertise

If the armed forces are to remain apolitical (and they must), the government has to provide them a layer of insulation, not just from the rough and tumble of politics, but also from the barbs of some sections of an ill-informed media. The best way to achieve this would be to do what the other democracies in the world have practiced for decades: subsume the armed forces headquarters within the central bastion of the government by making them an integral part of the Ministry of Defence. This is a huge breach in our national security edifice that the new NSA must redress at the earliest.

Our bureaucracy and diplomats are fond of blaming the Indian politician’s limited horizon for their failure to evolve a long-term vision in any area. While the democratic process in our country does demand that a politician devotes sufficient time to micro-issues relating to party, Parliament and constituency, it is for this reason that huge bureaucracies exist to deal with issues such as intelligence, foreign affairs and security.

Admiral Sureesh Mehta, the chairman of the chiefs of staff committee, stated in his farewell press conference, “The tests were adequate. We believe whatever the scientists tell us. The scientists said the tests were enough and tested. We believe the scientists, as they provide us with nuclear capability.” Clearly, he accepted no responsibility for these weapon systems. This is uncharacteristic of military ethos where any weapons system that the services induct, whether imported or indigenous, is put by them through rigorous testing before acceptance. They are then accountable for the achievement of results. The services did not take the word of DRDO scientists in the case of the Trishul missile, which was finally rejected.

General Ved Malik, who was the army chief at the time of Pokhran-II, termed the recent revelations shocking and said that it affects the armed forces, because when they plan the task given to them they have to know what kind of yield each nuclear weapon has.

Unsaid in these comments by two former service chiefs is that they bear no responsibility for the reliability, safety and operational potential of these weapons systems. That is to be borne by the scientists — who, we see, have their differences. While this leaves India’s nuclear deterrence between two stools, the armed forces by their meek acceptance must also share responsibility.

Mumbai Mayhem: India ill equipped to tackle terror, says US report

Washington: The Mumbai terror attacks have put the spotlight on how India's outdated and overburdened law enforcement and legal systems are hampering the country's counterterrorism efforts, says a US State Department report.

"Although clearly committed to combating violent extremism, the Indian government's counterterrorism efforts remained hampered by its outdated and overburdened law enforcement and legal systems," said the State Department's annual report on global terrorism released Thursday.

The Mumbai attackers appeared to have been well-trained and took advantage of technology, such as Global Positioning System trackers.

But "local and state police proved to be poorly trained and equipped and lacked central control to coordinate an effective response", said the report, exposing the inadequacies in India's counter-terrorism apparatus.

The Mumbai "attack was the most recent in a long list of lethal terrorist incidents" in India in 2008. But "none of the perpetrators of these attacks has yet been prosecuted", the report noted.

However, in response to the Mumbai attacks, India's parliament has introduced legislation to restructure counterterrorism laws and proposed creating a National Investigative Agency to build a national-level ability to investigate and prosecute alleged terrorist activity, it noted.

Also in response to the Mumbai attacks, the Indian government amended some existing laws to strengthen the hands of security and law enforcement agencies in fighting terrorism.

Two themes have framed the public debate on the new legislation: states' rights vs. federal power, and civil liberties vs. stronger law enforcement powers, the report noted.
