Subject: PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION FOR ESM BY NAVI MUMBAI MUNCIPAL CORPORATION
Dear Defence fraternity,
We had taken up a case for exempting property tax for ESM by Navi Mumbai Muncipal Corporation(NMMC). We had a meeting with with Commissioner NMMC on 02 feb 2008. This was followed by meetings with Mayor, Chairman Standing Committee NMMC & Cabinet Minister and Gaurdian Minister Of Navi Mumbai. We are informed that in principle decision has been taken by NMMC to exempt ESM from property tax. Official orders are likely to be issued after "ACHAR SANGITA" period is over.

Army’s plan to advertise through NCERT books to make up its man power deficiency, especially of officers, may discern its desperation. Even though our country has reached a critical stage in our quest for a developed nation, the actual success depends only on ensuring our security from external pressures and internal strife. The unprecedented shortage of officers in our Armed Forces which has reached, 24, 17 and 12 percent in the Army , Navy and Air Force respectively, is a cause for national worry. Having now understood the gravity of the problem, the Parliamentary Committee is highly perturbed and have already asked the Ministry of Defence to take immediate corrective actions.
The nagging questions are:
The country’s high expectation of the Armed Forces are legitimate and justifiable. The government while considering a compromise on the officer’s recruitment procedure, should keep in mind the long term objectives of our armed forces. India today stands faced with the daunting task of making the Army career attractive among the young educated people. Our history for the last six decades indicates that the political and bureaucratic nexus has been trying to systematically devalue the status Indian Armed Forces. Having lost the 'honour and glory' even the Service Chiefs have lost direct access to the political leadership at the apex level and continue to be deprived of participation in the decision making process of the country, even on defence matters. Let this country address the issue of parity with a feeling that our Armed Forces have a more vital role to play as compared to bureaucrats.
