IESM: Ex-armymen return medals over pay row on 14 March 2009

March 14: As many as 7,500 medals were returned by aggrieved ex-servicemen, protesting against the government’s refusal to concede the "one rank one pension", on Saturday, prominent ex-servicemen have said. Saturday marked the third and final protest meeting that involved return of medals to Rashtrapati Bhavan. Ex-servicemen said that the total number of medals, conferred for distinguished service, returned by ex-servicemen over the past two months is now a staggering 13,000. "We will give the government some time to react. If it does not, we will take other measures like a nationwide signature campaign. The ex-servicemen will use their voting rights effectively," said Maj. Gen. Satbir Singh (Retd).
