LEAVE THE ARMY ALONE
Leave the Army Alone
THE ARMY has once again been dragged in to do a dirty job. The dirt and water logging in the Commonwealth Games Village area are being cleaned up by the Indian Army which legitimately is the MCD’s job.
The Government, its ministers and the bureaucrats don’t hesitate even for a moment to call in the army to do a job for which it has no expertise in. Despite the army coming to the rescue of the government in every crisis, it does not want to pay them their legitimate dues or give them their status and position in the society. Government’s refusal to grant One Rank One Pension to military veterans even after the recommendations of successive parliamentary committees, denial of rank pay for over two decades even after the highest court of the land has given a judgment in favour of the case and refusing to revisit the order of precedence of the Armed Forces are prime examples.
Unfortunately, the bureaucracy is making a monkey out of the elected representatives of the government and the latter seems helpless.
At the end of the Games, it will be the organisations like the MCD who would walk away with commendations and awards while the army will be ignored as it happened after the Asian Games.
